Tekapo Before the Rush
Winter in Lake Tekapo doesn’t really ask much of you. It just slows things down a bit.
The air’s colder, the lake’s sharper, and suddenly there’s no rush to fill the day. You can head out if you want to… or not.
That tends to be the appeal.
You’ve still got everything there if you feel like doing something. Ski fields like Roundhill and Mt Dobson Ski Area are close by, Tekapo Springs is always a good option, and the night sky does what it’s known for. But just as easily, you can keep it simple and stay close to where you are.
That’s where having the right base makes a difference. Aldourie is set up so you don’t have to think too hard about anything. It’s close to the lake, easy to get around from, and comfortable enough that staying in feels like a solid option, not a backup plan.
Right now is a good time to book because it sits just before everything ramps up. There’s a bit more availability across accommodation in Tekapo, a bit more space around the village, and you still get that shift into winter starting to come through.
There’s also a small bonus if you do lock something in.
Book two nights or more in May and your stay will include the use of our Aldourie x Slow life Collections picnic set up, alongside a $50 voucher to Tekapo Foursquare to fill it with your favourite picnic treats.
Take it down to the lake, find a spot somewhere quiet, or just keep things easy and stay where you are. It’s there to use however you want.
Getting to Tekapo is straightforward, with routes like State Highway 8 well looked after through winter, and once you’re there, it doesn’t take much to settle in.
If you’ve been meaning to plan a Lake Tekapo trip, May’s a pretty easy time to do it. You’re early enough to avoid the busier period, late enough to feel like winter’s arrived, and you get a little extra included along the way.
Book two nights or more at Aldourie this May and the picnic hamper is part of the stay.
